The Marine Corps became heavily involved in fighting conventional and unconventional warfare against the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War. Marines fought stubbornly in Da Nang, Hue, Khe Sanh, and in a variety of operations along the border of North and South Vietnam. The Marines also participated in the evacuation of Saigon and were among the last Americans to leave the country.
