1920-1940
Beginning the 1920s under the Commandancy of Major General John A. Lejeune, the Marine Corps made great strides to cement its purpose as a service by focusing on perfecting the art of amphibious landings. Through the work of military intellectuals, such as Major “Pete” Ellis, the Marine Corps refined its amphibious capabilities and established a strong relationship with the Navy in preparation for a potential war in the Pacific. The Fleet Marine Force was formed for this mission in 1933 to refine coordination between air, land, and sea—with the Corps investing heavily in warplanes and landing craft.
250th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Series: Delivered monthly, each coin highlights a pivotal era in the Corps’ rich heritage, honoring the valor, traditions, and legacy that have defined the Marines for centuries. Beautifully crafted, these coins are a must-have for collectors, veterans, and anyone inspired by the enduring spirit of the USMC.
